Brent Schneider (bodhran, bass, guitar, vocals) is a Kingston pharmacist when not playing music. His chosen instrument is the guitar but he was intrigued by a garage sale
find by his wife -- she came home with a Bodhran one day, having purchased it for
$5.00. The logical thing to do of course was to start hanging around in pubs
with other Bodhran players. In doing so he met the other members of Irish Roots
and has been playing Celtic music ever since.

Mary Kennedy (fiddle, mandolin, vocals) originally started
her music career playing piano taking lessons from the nuns at Providence Manor
in Kingston. She picked up the fiddle at the age of 20 as she wanted to play an
instrument that was more social and easily carried. She is a graduate of
Queen’s University with a BA focussing on music – especially music theory. She
has been teaching fiddle and mandolin for six years. She teaches Irish fiddle
music as well as the Ottawa Valley style with a smattering of Métis, Blues and
Québécois. She loves Great Big Sea, Gordon Stobbe (but not in a creepy way),
and playmobil (just ask me about playmobil)!!!!

Paul Gillespie (accoustic guitar and vocals) is a proud Wolfe Islander that reluctantly moved to the mainland to pursue a career in education. Although now living again
in Kingston, he taught in different cities in Ontario before moving on to Manitoba to work as an educational consultant and senior school division administrator. At the end of his 35 year career, he and his wife chose to move back to Kingston to enjoy his retirement amongst family and friends. For a number of years before leaving Manitoba, Paul was a member of a celtic band called Eastern Passage that performed in theatres, coffee houses and pubs in the Portage la Prairie and Winnipeg areas. As a song writer, he has
written many of the original tunes that appear on our second CD.
"The Roads We Choose", and that often appear in our set lists.
